Overview
He grew up believing he had no relatives apart from Aunty Glad, so it came as an astonishing surprise to discover only a few years ago that his great-great-grandfather, Job Flowers, had arrived on one of the first sailing ships into Nelson from England.
This is the story of Job’s great-great-grandson. Now seventy-five, he reflects on a life lived in an era before modern technology, when birds, bees, trees and fish and chips filled the days. Convinced his generation experienced the best of times, he looks back with gratitude, remembering the path he travelled and how he made the most of it.
Juicies – A Kiwi Success Story
In 1989, Brian Hirst created Juicies after a conversation with a Nelson Health Board nutritionist about the lack of healthy drinks in schools. The result was a fruit juice pouch that quickly became a staple in school canteens and later evolved into a frozen treat enjoyed nationwide.
Recognised with top New Zealand food awards and the prestigious Sial d’Or in France, Juicies remains one of Aotearoa’s most iconic and best-known home-grown products.
